About Speaker : Dr. Prabuddha Ganguli obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Bombay University, M.Sc in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and PhD in Chemistry from the Bombay University for his research at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). This was followed by postdoctoral research in Germany at the Johannes Gutenberg Universitat, Mainz as an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellow and as Research Associate at Windsor University, Canada. He was visiting scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai in 1980, before moving to industrial R&D. He has been a National Science Talent Scholar in India. He is an elected Fellow of the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences. Since 2001 he is CEO of his consulting firm VISION-IPR offering services in IPR and Knowledge Management. His professional career spans academics including international industrial experience from 1981-2001 in Hindustan Unilever (subsidiary of Unilever PLC) in India and abroad, in diverse managerial roles such as research scientist, R&D management, strategic management of IPR in businesses, management of factories, implementation of technology transfer, knowledge management systems in businesses, managing corporate information security and corporate planning. He held the prestigious position as Honorary Scientific Consultant for Innovation and IPR matters to the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India from 2005 to January 2018. He was Chairman of the Jury cum selection committee in 2019 to identify and shortlist the entries received in the “Grand Challenges” Project of the Atal Innovation Mission, Niti Ayog, Government of India. He held the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) IPR Chair Professorship at Tezpur University, Assam, India from May 2012 to June 2017. He is presently Visiting Professor in the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur, He is also Advisor to the IIT Jodhpur. He has been invited by the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to be a member of the Thematic Group consultation on “Data and Regulatory Framework” [TG-4] for Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (STIP) - 2020. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has engaged him as a “MARGADARSHAK” to mentor several Universities in India. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Vishwakarma University, Pune and member of the Research Advisory Council of the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gujarat. He is a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) in the National Digital Library of India project at IIT Kharagpur. He is Hon. Vice Chairman and Member of the Board of the Intellectual Law Practitioners Association (IPLPA). He is member of the International Editorial Board of “World Patent Information and a member of the Editorial Board of the “Journal of Intellectual Property Rights”, published by CSIR. He is a leading expert on IPR, a registered Patent Agent in India, an adviser on IPR policy to several governments and has been a Consultant to the World Intellectual Property Organization since 2001. His work on Geographical Indications (GI) Value Chain has become a model for GI as a tool for socio-economic and cluster development. He has over 50 publications in technical fields, over 60 publications in IPR including invited chapters in specialized topics in several edited international volumes in IPR. He has authored 6 books in IPR. In February 2011 he was awarded "The Chemtech Pharma-Bio World Award for outstanding contribution in the field of Intellectual Property". In 2014, the legal fraternity in India under the banner of “LEGAL ERA” honoured him with “The Lifetime Achievement Award”. In October 2014, The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Alumni Association conferred on him the “Excellence Award” for his contributions in Technology Management and IPR. The Global Intellectual Property Convention (GIPC) 2020 honoured him with the GIPC Award 2020 for Innovation and IPR.
